Cántico de la Mujer Latina recently served as guest choir for St. Alfred parish in Taylor, MI. We served at the parish’s 2:00p.m Spanish mass.
This celebration included selections from Misa Salvadorena, songs for worship based on the homilies of Archbishop and Martyr, Oscar Romero, written by Guillermo Cuéllar.
Other songs in this mass included "Canten al Senor," written by Donna Pena. We also used some of the music of one of our favorite liturgical composers, Rosa Martha Zarate. We used Rosa’s "Antorcha de la Fe," whose text and poetic recitative celebrate the Mexican experience. Of course, we also sang Rosa’s "Cántico de Mujer," which has become our theme song!
Cántico de la Mujer Latina learned a new "Padre Nuestro" just for this occasion, as the Spanish speaking community of St. Alfred uses the "Padre Nuestro" written by Cuban-American Liturgist and composer, Fr. Juan Sosa. Fr. Juan is currently the president of The National Institute of Hispanic Liturgy.
The post-lude inlcuded "Le Lo Le Lo Lai Lo," which is actually a Puerto Rican acclamation for the mass.
Many thanks to Fr. Jim Kean, pastor of St. Alfred, for having us.
Thanks also to Janet Díaz for her support. Thanks Janet, for helping us set up, finding the extra stand, for all you do for St. Alfred parish.
Many thanks, also, to Joseph Zarazua for helping us to set-up.
We were very well received by the community and actually received an invitation from one of the parishioners to sing at a special event later on this month!
Where is Cántico de la Mujer Latina taking our creative ministry next?
We are currently considering a few trips out of state. We are awaiting formal invitations from sponsor groups as well as checking into schedules and financing. We do not know which, if any, of these invitations we will be able to accept, but we are most grateful to even be considered. Keep an eye on this blog for further updates and information.
We are always open to bringing our creative ministry to your area. You may feel free to contact us for information about inviting us to your parish or special event. You may also subscribe to this blog. Please note that if you contact us for more information or subscribe to this blog you will be asked to confirm the request via email. Thank you, again, to St. Alfred, for having us.
